PROJECT “LAYERS OF RAIN”.

On the day of St. Francis of Assisi, and as a closing of the “Time of Creation” we want to share with you a great news. As students of the Salesian School Ceferino Namuncura, Salta, Argentina members of Don Bosco Green Alliance, we believe that small actions can help to care for and protect the environment.

In our school, we receive breakfast and snack. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have chocolate milk, and for that we use numerous sachets of milk. With the 4th grade boys and girls, we decided that these sachets should not become garbage but should be recycled, reused and transformed into rain capes.

We carried out a project between Technology and Religion, exchanging content, working together and getting down to work.

“It gave us joy, enthusiasm and happiness to take care of the environment” (Carla).

“It meant taking care of the environment, recycling, reusing, reducing garbage and not polluting anymore” (Luciano).

“We did it to avoid pollution” (Martina).

Since July, we started collecting the sachets, cutting them open. We washed them and put them to dry in the sun. Once they were all dry, it was time to sew. Some of the boys and girls had some idea of sewing, and they were the ones who helped us with the first stitches.

The work continued in each house, in each family, and so, everyone had their own rain cape or raincoat. They were creative in their shapes and decorations.

“I felt green and happy to help the environment, to recycle. I felt happy to do it as a family and work as a team” (Sahira).

Last week, after several weeks, we had a morning accompanied by a lot of rain, and the 4th Grade boys and girls did not hesitate to wear their capes and start playing underwater, protected and covered with something they made themselves.

“I felt excitement, joy. And every time I saw that it was getting more shaped I got more excited and I imagined myself in the rain with the pilot” (Zoe).

We know that small actions and projects like these help us to continue being custodians of creation, protectors of the environment.
