Salesian Pontifical University is officially a "green" organization

Rome, Italy

The path of energy efficiency on the campus of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) continues: started in November 2021, in collaboration with "Global Power Service," the company contracted to execute the project, UPS has recently obtained the ISO 50001 Certification, which attests to the efficiency of the energy management systems put in place by UPS.

The entire academic community, staff, students, faculty, and residents are involved - in an active way - in this journey and to ever more attentive care of the "Common House."

A renewed vision of the relationship between man and nature, which is not only about reducing plastic or using renewable sources but also about food waste, climate change, and sustainable mobility.

At a time of great drought and extraordinary natural phenomena, the Salesian University courageously renews its commitment to protecting the Planet, as Pope Francis also reminded us recently, aiming to increasingly improve the daily actions of all members of the educational community to promote a new "ecological culture."

"We can definitely claim to be, to all intents and purposes, an Eco-community," they affirm from UPS.

UPS, a reality of excellence in Salesian higher education, has 1,726 students, 228 faculty members, and as many as 97 nationalities represented within it. UPS has also joined the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS), the first experience of coordination and sharing among all Italian universities committed to issues of environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

In the pursuit of its efficiency path, UPS is working along three lines: the installation of photovoltaic systems on the roofs of buildings and electric charging stations; the efficiency upgrading of thermal power plants; and the implementation of an Energy Management System (SGE) that complies with the requirements of the international standard UNI EN ISO 50001:2018, which provides organizations with references and parameters for saving money and using energy as efficiently as possible.
