On the occasion of the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Eco Club of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim, organized a webinar on the Conservation of Natural Wealth. The students of XI & XII Science along with Principal and staff were a part of this educative and highly informative program.
The event began with the felicitation by the Eco Club Teacher Co-ordinator of the Guest Speaker Dr. Manoj Borkar, a senior academician and a fellow of the Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences. The participants were impressed by the profound knowledge of the speaker on the topic “Are we the Owners or the Custodians of our Natural Wealth?”
Delivering a passionate lecture on the menace of resource over-exploitation at an unsustainable pace, he reiterated that our Earth provides us with finite resources without restrictions on its use and humans have only been plundering and exhausting then irreversibly. Drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, the speaker called for a change in attitude from being egocentric to eco-centric, and to embrace a life-style of minimalism to prevent further degradation of the environment and its diminishing resources.
He further explained the possible steps that can be taken at a personal level to reduce this menace. An interactive discourse ignited the inquisitiveness of the participants and strengthened their commitment to bringing about a change in this alarming scenario.
The Principal, Fr. Savio Gomes informed the participants that Don Bosco HSS, Panjim has joined the Don Bosco Green Alliance, an international collective of young people committed to global environmental action, thought and policy. The informative webinar culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by the Eco Club Student Leader, Evanthika Pereira.
