Throughout the month of May, the Comprehensive Ecology Committee at Centro Educativo Salesianos Talca (CEST) in Chile, led by science teacher Nicolás Ulloa, is presenting the 2026 Ecology Work Plan to student environmental care representatives and ecological brigades at a meeting aimed at strengthening their role as active agents in promoting a culture of sustainability within the educational community.
The document, which is part of the Annual Plan of the Comprehensive Ecology Committee (PACEI), sets forth objectives, activities, responsibilities, and evaluation strategies aimed at establishing effective environmental management at all levels of the school. This plan coordinates curricular, pastoral, and extracurricular activities, and one of its central goals is to maintain the environmental certification granted by the National School Environmental Certification System (SNCAE), while also advancing the Huella Chile program.
The teacher emphasized that this program is rooted in the Salesian charism of caring for our common home, in line with national standards and the institution’s mission to educate citizens who are environmentally conscious and responsible. “Environmental education stands out as a fundamental pillar of students’ holistic education,” he noted.
The plan aims to improve recycling management and recycling stations in classrooms, courtyards, and common areas; develop environmental education activities tailored to different grade levels; launch institutional campaigns that engage the entire educational and pastoral community; and advance the development of the Ceferino Namuncura Educational Forest as a living classroom.
This plan is now available on the CEST website and will be presented to students, teachers, teaching assistants, parents, and guardians, inviting the entire community to actively engage in its implementation, with the goal of making a significant and lasting impact on how they interact with their natural and social environments.
