"The greatest change begins with the smallest action." Living by this belief, the students of Don Bosco High School, Borivali (W) transformed an ordinary Saturday into a meaningful mission for Mother Nature through a Beach Clean-up Drive organised by the Science and Nature Club on July 18, 2026 at Gorai Beach.
Twenty-five enthusiastic students from Classes VII to IX, accompanied by five teachers, stepped beyond the classroom to become guardians of the environment. Before embarking on the drive, they were sensitised about environmental responsibility, safety measures, and the importance of preserving natural ecosystems. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was informed in advance to ensure the smooth conduct of the activity.
Setting out from the school at 9 a.m., the students arrived at Gorai Beach with a shared purpose—to restore the beauty of the shoreline and spread awareness about responsible waste management. A meaningful interaction with members of the local Koli community gave them valuable insights into how plastic pollution affects marine life, fishing activities, and the livelihoods of coastal families. The discussion encouraged students to reflect on the role each individual plays in protecting the environment.
What followed was a remarkable display of teamwork and determination. Equipped with gloves and collection bags, the young volunteers diligently gathered and segregated plastic waste, bottles, wrappers, and other litter strewn across the beach. Their efforts not only rejuvenated a part of the coastline but also demonstrated that every responsible action, however small, contributes to a cleaner and healthier planet.
The drive concluded at 11 a.m., and the team returned to school, carrying back far more than bags of collected waste—they returned with a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and sustainable living.
The Beach Clean-up Drive was more than a cleanliness campaign; it was a powerful lesson in action, compassion, and collective responsibility. Through this initiative, the students proved that true change begins when young minds choose to care, act, and inspire others. As these young eco-warriors left footprints on the sand, they also left behind a lasting message—protecting our planet is everyone's responsibility, and every effort creates a wave of change.
