Port Moresby, PNG, 11 October 2026 -- The Salesian Youth Ministry of the Vice-Province of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu joined the worldwide “Breath of Life” Campaign: Planting a Greener Future, from 27 September to 4 October 2026. In support of the Don Bosco Green Alliance’s commitment to environmental care and the preparation for World Youth Day Seoul 2027, The Bosconians participated in a tree-planting activity at the Port Moresby Nature Park. The initiative encouraged young people to take practical responsibility for protecting the environment and promoting a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
The activity began with a briefing by the Port Moresby Nature Park Staff, who explained the importance of trees, environmental conservation and the proper methods of planting and caring for young plants. Following the briefing, the boys received instructions and guidance on how to carry out the planting activity responsibly. They then worked together to plant trees, demonstrating teamwork, enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute to the protection of the natural environment. The practical experience also helped them appreciate the importance of caring for the earth through simple but meaningful actions.
Through this initiative, the Salesian Youth Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to forming young people who are not only spiritually grounded but also socially responsible and environmentally conscious. The tree-planting activity reflected the Salesian spirit of educating young people to become Good Christians and honest citizens who contribute positively to society. By joining the global “Breath of Life” Campaign, the Bosconians of the PGS Vice-Province demonstrated that caring for our common home begins with concrete actions at the local level. Their participation stands as an encouragement to other young people and communities in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to protect nature and work together towards a greener and more sustainable future.
