Biodiversity Initiative - Salesian Provincial House, Crumlin, Ireland
Salesians in Crumlin have been thinking of ways to increase biodiversity on their grounds and make them more pollinator-friendly. In Ireland, one third of the 99 bee species are threatened with extinction, so this is a very serious issue. While there were flowerbeds already in place, the Salesian community wanted to do more to help pollinators. So, they are leaving a section of the lawn unmown, to allow flowers to grow there naturally, and have also planted native Irish wildflower seeds. They are looking forward to seeing the flowers grow and hope that they will be a great source of food for local pollinators!
